Angler rescued by patrol vessel
An angler was rescued from a life raft by a £90m offshore patrol vessel after his boat sank in the Solent.
The vessel sank two miles south west of St Catherine's Point on the Isle of Wight, said Solent Coastguard, which also scrambled its helicopter.
The angler launched a red flare as he abandoned his boat, which was then spotted by the patrol vessel Port Of Spain at about 1440 GMT.
The Lee-on-Solent man was unhurt but suffering from shock, a spokesman said.
